Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Palixia handles personal information when you visit the website, create an account, read or publish stories, use community features or contact us. Palixia operates from Nigeria and welcomes users from different countries. It is operated as a registered private limited company in Nigeria. Privacy laws may give you additional rights depending on where you live.
1. Information we handle
- Account and profile information: name, username, email address, password-authentication records, profile biography, country and profile picture. If you choose Google sign-in, Google and our authentication provider process information needed to authenticate your account.
- Stories and community content: books, chapters, covers, images, profile content, comments, replies, community posts, polls and other material you choose to submit.
- Reading and account activity: bookmarks, saved books, reading progress, follows, likes, interactions, notifications and related activity needed to provide platform features.
- Visitor analytics: the website creates a random browser-session identifier in local browser storage and records page-view events, including the page path, event time and, when you are signed in, your account identifier. The visitor-events table is not designed to store your IP address. Hosting, database, authentication and security providers may separately process technical logs or request metadata, which can include IP addresses.
- Support messages: the information and attachments you send when contacting us or reporting a concern.
- Technical and security information: information generated by your browser, device, network and the services that deliver the website, to the extent needed for hosting, authentication, reliability, fraud prevention and security.
Do not send us passwords, one-time authentication codes or full payment-card details by email. Avoid placing sensitive personal information in public profiles, comments or stories.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and manage accounts; authenticate users; display profiles and published work; provide reading, library, bookmarking, following and community features; record page-view analytics; respond to support requests and reports; maintain, secure and improve the platform; prevent spam, fraud and abuse; and comply with legal obligations or protect legal rights.
3. Legal grounds
Depending on the information and feature involved, we process personal information where it is necessary to provide a service or take steps you request; where we have a legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving Palixia and that interest is not overridden by your rights; where you have given consent; or where processing is required by law. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it, although this does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal or processing that has another lawful basis.
4. Public content
Information you choose to make public—such as your username, author profile, published stories, covers, comments and community posts—can be viewed, copied, indexed or shared by other people. Do not publish information you want to keep private. Your account email and authentication credentials are not intended to be displayed publicly.
5. Service providers
Palixia uses third-party providers to operate the website. The current implementation uses Supabase for database, authentication and related storage services, and Vercel for hosting and deployment. Google services may be used for Google sign-in. Palixia does not currently load Google advertising scripts or serve advertising through the website.
Payment processing is not currently offered as a general public feature on Palixia. Payment-related code is being prepared and restricted to administrative testing. If payment features are enabled for users in the future, the relevant payment provider will process the information needed for the transaction under its own privacy terms, and this policy will be updated before the feature is made available.
We do not sell personal information as a product. Providers may process information on our behalf or for their own limited purposes under their applicable terms. We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users or rights, investigate abuse, or handle a business transfer.
6. Cookies and browser storage
Palixia uses browser storage for essential functions such as maintaining an authenticated session and remembering a random analytics session identifier. These technologies may include local storage and other browser storage, not only cookies. Google advertising services may also use cookies or similar technologies when their advertising tags are requested. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.
7. Retention and security
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including while an account is active, to provide platform features, resolve disputes, maintain security, meet legal obligations or enforce our terms. Page-view analytics and technical logs are retained according to the applicable database and provider settings; we do not state a fixed deletion period where one has not been verified. Backups may retain deleted information for a limited period as they rotate. We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
8. International processing
Our infrastructure and service providers may process or store information in countries outside Nigeria and outside the country where you live. The location and applicable safeguards depend on provider services and configuration. Where Nigerian or other applicable law requires a lawful transfer basis or safeguards for international transfers, the responsible parties must use the required mechanism.
9. Your privacy rights and requests
Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to request access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to certain processing, data portability, and withdrawal of consent where consent is the basis. You may also have the right to complain to your data-protection authority. To make a request, email info@palixia.com from your account email where possible, describe the request and identify the account concerned. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We will respond in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
You can edit some profile information through your profile page. At present, if you need your account or associated personal information deleted, contact us; there is not a self-service account-deletion control described in this policy. Some information may be retained where required or permitted for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute or backup purposes.
10. Children
Palixia is not designed as a service for children who are below the age at which they can lawfully consent to the processing of their personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately, contact info@palixia.com so we can review the matter.
11. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when the platform, its providers or applicable requirements change. We will update the date at the top of this page. For privacy questions or requests, email info@palixia.com or use our Contact Us page.
